8CCC Feature Album is Bumpy’s Kanana. The reaction has been phenomenal and really landing well across the country. Take a listen! Here’s what it means for Bumpy:
‘Kanana means ‘land where the sun sets’ in Noongar. Everyday people slow down, go up mountains or to the water, make plans with friends, have a moment of solitude to bathe in the beauty of a sunset. This moment is handled with care. We look at Kanana and catch a glimpse of unity. Sharing a moment, appreciating what’s around and beyond us. I like to imagine what Kanana sees, a sea of people looking back in a moment of togetherness. This song is an ode to hoping that can extend far beyond the land where the sun sets.
Nan’s the Word: ‘For all our staunch Blak women showing the way. Very special being surrounded by pictures of my matriarchs in this footage
“Found a way to light the dark/ History called for the greats and here you are”.’
‘KANANA has been my motivator, my healer, my power. It started off with a hope to learn more of my language and have music as the vessel to help me process it all. I wanted to create a safe place for myself and everyone to deeply listen, feel, cry, dance, find joy and hope all in one. I hope you can find the time to sit with it and listen start to back, the way intended.
I’m independent and self managed and this project has had me circling myself. Wouldn’t be where it is today without an entire community around me. Community collaboration and care is central in this record. what we do starts with how we operate. I always want to make sure I am doing what I can to uplift and work in ways that creatively nourish the people around us.’
