Volunteering NT nominations 2025 – Mona Ulak

Last year's recipient of the NT Chief Minister's Volunteer of the Year Award, Mona Ulak spoke with the Big Brekky Show's Kate Lyons-Dawson about what it has meant to be recognised for her volunteering work, especially with MCSCA and the Nepalese community and what that work gifts back. The nominations were extended until 22 April and will be awarded 20 May 2025.

Bindi Enterprises visited the Big Brekky Show to announce the launch of their exciting new Digital Textile Design program an innovative extension of our Bindi Digital Art department. Entering its third year, Bindi Digital Art is evolving with this new offering, which begins 3 May, designed to give participants the opportunity to explore digital drawing and design, with an additional focus on turning their artwork into fabric repeats.

Katie Harder chatted with Kate Lyons-Dawson on the release day of her new single Oceans Roar. Encouraged by the word pictures of Aslan roaring a new world to life in her family's favourite books of C.S Lewis, Katie captures these ideas perfectly, and brings them to life with bold high melodies, mirrored in her unique fingerpicking guitar style and held together with deep rumbles of long bowed cello. She'll be playing live tonight at the Watertank Cafe with Gleny Rae, supporting Sally Balfour on tour.

You now have extra time to nominate those important people and groups in our community for the Volunteering NT Awards, extended now until 22 April 2025 and the big night is now 20 May 2025. Heritage Festival 2025 – Unearthed from the Archives – Eleanor Hogan

Libraries and Archives NT's Eleanor Hogan talks to 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson about a special event, Unearthed from the Archives, being held tomorrow night (Wednesday April 16) from 6.30pm at Witchetty's at the Araluen Arts Centre, as part of the NT Heritage Festival. The event features an open discussion with filmmaker Penny McDonald and ABC broadcaster Alex Barwick about how they used the Territory's archives to tell the stories of indigenous artist Audrey Napanangka through film and investigate the mysteries surrounding desert spy base Pine Gap through Barwick's podcast, as well as unexpected findings about the history of Papunya art with curator Luke Scholes. Head along early to get a seat for Unearthed from the Archives at Witchetty's, tomorrow night, from 6.30pm.

Desert Diva Catherine Satour to play Parrtjima 2025

Catherine Satour will be performing at Parrtjima -A Festival of Light in Alice Springs this Saturday 12 April with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra. Catherine will be alongside Bronwyn Stuart and Casii Williams, each with an original song. Later in the night they perform together as the Desert Divas. She drops in to 8CCC's Big Brekky program with MusicNT’s Central Australian Manager, Liz Archer, to speak where the Desert Divas program began and how it has grown since 2011.

DSO NT Tour 2025 – Jonathan Tooby

Darwin Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Jonathan Tooby, took some time out before leaving on the DSO NT Tour, to speak with the Big Brekky Show about the itinerary. Arriving in Tennant Creek on 10 April with Dr Shellie Morris AO, in a debut performance of new songs in language from a collaboration with Warumungu women Rosemary Plummer, Marlene Plummer and Miriam Frank with new arrangements by DSO Composer in Residence Netanela Mizrahi and the input of a local children’s choir. On Saturday they're joined at Parrtjima by local Desert Divas Catherine Satour, Casii Williams and Bronwyn Stuart. If that's not enough, a more intimate DSO deconstructed is on at Araluen 2pm Sunday with ASWCO.

Flickerfest 2025 – Bronwyn Kidd

The Flickerfest Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd was on hand to unpack this year's Flickerfest offerings in Mparntwe Alice Springs on Friday and Saturday 11 & 12 April on the Araluen Circus Lawns from 7.30pm. The Big Brekky Show heard all about the selection process and this year's local inclusion - award-winning film The Fix-It-Man And The Fix-It-Wooman, directed by Cornelius Ebatarinja & Nelson Armstrong and written by Rhonda Sharpe & Courtney Collins.
