On Arvos with Andy, we had Alexander Vaughan Policy Advocacy Coordinator Arid Lands Environment Centre. Alex was in the studio to discuss the disastrous Singleton Project delay. Alex indicated that ALEC welcomes this two-year delay and what it could mean in preparing an argument against Fortune Agribusiness. As evidence that Singleton Station is a groundwater grab while destroying our natural environment.  Fortune Agribusiness’ project threatens to destroy a gigantic ghost gum garden in the Barkly. An iconic tree of Central Australia and the Barkly. 

Australian folk musicians Jessie Monk and Adrian Ryan visited 8CCC Brekky Show to talk about their set at the Top Half Folk Festival and playing at the festival launch party tonight with Enbarr at Bojangles. Drawing inspiration from the folk traditions of her Gaelic-Anglo heritage, Naarm-based artist, Jessie Monk is obsessed with old myths, poetry, stories, and musical motifs from various traditions and lineages throughout the ages. They play Shadow live in the 8CCC studio, a song from her second album, Mis O'The Mountains.

On Arvos with Andy, we had Charlie Powling from the Black Pepper Band. This song appreciates that through love, loss, and everything between...It Kissed Me Tenderly stays with you. Led by Darwin mainstay Charlie whose career spans over a decade of richly narrative-driven work—the band once again drawn from the well of folk, country, rock and blues to deliver a song of rare emotional resonance. Backing vocals from Melanie Macauley and Erin Conaghty add warmth and lift, while expressive guitar work— including contributions from James (Gravy) Brown and Lindsay Masters—ground the song in a classic yet immediate sonic landscape. Recorded and mastered by Ward Hancock, every element is captured with clarity and depth. 

Danzal Baker joined us on 8CCC Brekky Show ahead of his all ages gig at Alice Springs Brewing Co on 2 May 2026. Better known as Baker Boy, the Yolŋu artist spoke about his Grandmother, for whom he named his 2025 album DJANDJAY, as well as his excitement to be back playing live in Mparntwe Alice Springs. Following a call out for a local support act, there'll be many local talents waiting in anticipation.

Author and lawyer, Brooke Forbes visited 8CCC Brekky Show to chat about her new book Survival is an Instinct, being launched on Saturday 2.30pm at Red Kangaroo Books. This book is a personal essay on survival, recovery and reclaiming your future; embedded with a series of short stories written from Brooke’s early university days to her post-psychosis reality. The short stories focus on how big small relationships are, turning points and the beauty within the suburban sprawl. The personal essay shines a light on the importance of creativity and expression in recovery."a courageous and deeply moving work that gives voice to the realities of sexual violence, mental illness, and recovery." Community Engagement Coordinator, Meret MacDonald and Anti Fracking Campaign Coordinator, Hannah Eakin from Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC) came in to share the latest news and events from ALEC. This Thursday 30 April, join them at The Roastery from 6pm for campaign updates, and community workshop: Spotlight on Buffel. ALEC supports both Eastside and Westside gardens and we chatted about working bees on every Sunday 3pm at Westside. There will also be a screening 6pm at Alice Springs Cinema on 7 May of a documentary exposé on the US military as the world's biggest polluter.

A roadside maintenance mishap has been flipped into a celebration of art, community and horticultural passion in East Side, Mparntwe Alice Springs as the Alice Springs Town Council honours Geoff Miers  with an art installation by Chris Scott on the UndoolyaRd/Lindsay Avenue roundabout that has displayed a profusion of Sturt Desert Peas for over 23 years. The event begins at 7am this Sunday 26 April, with speeches just after 8 broadcast live on 8CCC, followed by market stalls and 8CCC Cafe open to the community throughout the morning.

On Arvos with Andy, we had Tumi Radebe. Tumi is now a Darwin-based singer-songwriter. Her music is influenced by her father and her church upbringing, where she learned the intentional use of dynamics to create an immersive, emotional experience. Radebe crafts her lyrics around self-discovery, community, and personal growth. She’s recently collaborated with DJ GZA on “Losing Kontrol” and with Dan The Underdog on “Paradise” — a laidback hip-hop track that will have you dreaming about the high life, enjoying the finer things, and rising above the haters who don’t want to see you flying high.

Watch this Space’s current exhibition is CRISÁLIDA, an interplay between artificial and natural, the artists wrestle with their relationships to time, intimacy, landscape and money through the lens of the body. A first collaboration between dance artist Ashleigh Musk and video artist Ivan Trigo Miras, CRISÁLIDA is an immersive installation blending video, sound and the body to create a space for introspection. Sound design is by Anna Whitaker.Ash and Ivan will be in the space on Saturdays and the exhibition goes until 7 May. On Arvos with Andy we had live on Saltwater Radio ‘Clifton’ with "Talk To Me". This single marks the long-awaited return of Clifton after a 12-month hiatus. Stepping away from his urban hip-hop roots, Clifton leans into a more melodic indie-pop sound, blending introspective lyrics with subtle hip-hop influences. The track reflects moments that have passed and connections that slipped away, showcasing a more reflective and evolved side of his artistry. With this new direction, Clifton is one to watch through 2026 and beyond.
