Arrkula Yinbayarra play Desert Harmony Festival

Arrkula Yinbayarra, Together We Sing, are a group of 10 incredible women from the Gulf community of Borroloola who are preserving their language and sharing culture through some very catchy music. Together with Dr Shellie Morris, they released their debut album Waralungku late last year to critical acclaim and now they are in town for Barkly Regional Arts’ Desert Harmony Festival which kicks off tonight! Yanyuwa Garrwa women, Annie Taylor, Nancy McDinny, and Rachel McDinny are members of the musical group and join us live from 8CCC’s Tennant Creek studio. Tune in to hear their stories!

Free BBQs & cyber security with Neighbourhood WatchNT

The CEO of Neighbourhood WatchNT, Veronica Larson, visits The Big Brekky to give an update on the organisation's activities. The Airport Community Group is sponsoring two NHWNT events; a BBQ and free coffee event in Alice Springs at the Police Lawns on 8 August, and a BBQ in Tennant Creek on Saturday 23rd August. The Tennant Creek event is partnership with the Rotary Club, and also includes two safety sessions - one for women - on 21st and the 22nd of August.In partnership with ID Care, NHWNT are also running an NT tour to share information about scams and cyber security. Termite mound mud-bricks on Warumungu country with re-engineered brick machine

Wilya Janta Aboriginal Corporation's CEO, Dr Simon Quilty, from Tennant Creek updates the Big Brekky about the newly re-engineered brick-making machine which can now support communities across the Barkly to make their own bricks from their own Country. Primarily using termite mounds and spinifex, the bricks are part of a larger plan for environmentally and culturally-appropriate housing on Warumungu country. Local plumber Nathan McAuliffe has been an integral part of the renovation.

Norman Frank & Simon Quilty – Aboriginal Housing & Homelands Conference 2024

Warumungu Elder Norman Frank and Dr Simon Quilty, the brains, determination and spark behind Wilya Ajjul Janta - Standing Strong Together- visited the studio while in town to speak at the Aboringinal Housing and Homelands Conference. This is an inspiring developing happening up in Tennant Creek to provide culturally and climate appropriate housing for the community.

On the Big Brekky Show we have Dr Simon Quilty who has been a medical doctor in the NT for 20 years. Simon is part of a housing collaboration between Traditional Owners, medical professionals, architects, and local tradespeople, Wilya Janta – Standing Strong. They're hoping to have two houses built by the end of 2024.
