Childbirth educator and author of 'Birthing With Confidence', Rhea Dempsey, chats with Ilse Pickerd about her life experience, and the evolution of a medicalised childbirth culture and consequent physiological and social impacts. Thanks to a QANTAS Regional Grant and the Birth & Beyond Parent Resource Centre, Rhea recently visited Mparntwe to present three free workshops addressing issues in our contemporary birthing culture.Appealing to all pregnant women and mothers, health industry workers, birth educators and students, Rhea talks about her life experience, understanding the role of pain and hormones in birth, implications of the epidural for a physiological childbirth, and some considerations for birth preparation.
