Dr Felix Ho has dedicated more than three decades to volunteering, beginning with St John Ambulance cadets at just 13 years old, and now his years of volunteering have been recognised in winning the inaugural Australian Volunteer of the Year award. A highly respected volunteer leader, clinician and mentor, Felix contributes extensively at local, national and international levels across emergency response, youth development and disaster preparedness. From Darwin where he has lived for 17 year, he spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson during Volunteer Week about why he has always volunteered and what it means to receive this award.

Pioneer Football Club, a sporting club since 1947, holds community, strength and culture close to heart. They recently received an Aboriginal Investment NT Community Quick Response Grant which they utilised in new sporting equipment, designed new uniforms and support for players to take to the field with confidence and safety. Artistic Director Lynne Hanton OAM, founder of the Australian Dance Academy in 1974 and the ballet company, known today as Duprada Dance Company in 1984, has been awarded in two award categories at this year's NT Performing Arts Awards - for Inspiring Educator and Ultimate Legend. Roland Bull is an NT-based a writer, comedian and doctor with an interest in life writing, health and LGBTIQA+ issues. He spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson about winning one of six residencies at Varuna, the National Writers House offered to NT writers as part of NT Arts Fellowship in 2025. 

The NT Arts Residency fellowship offers six writers living in the Northern Territory the opportunity to undertake a two-week residency at Varuna. The number of applicants for this Fellowship almost doubled this year and entries were so competitive that the assessors were compelled to highlight four writers who made their Highly Commended list: Alex Eve, Nikki Moyes, Matthew Nixon and Emma Trenorden. 8CCC Big Brekky spoke with Mparntwe-based teacher Amanda Grace who was one of the winners for 2025. She is interested in fiction which blends speculative elements with emotional realism, particularly for young people. Her stories have been published in Astray, and her first novel-length manuscript, Geo Vs the Whole Wide Worlds, secured her the Arts NT Residential Fellowship.

8CCC Big Brekky's Kate Lyons-Dawson spoke with the NT Electoral Commissioner, Kirsten Kelly, after hearing reports about a record low voter turnout. Robyn Lambley MLA media release cited one of the factors being the closure of the NTEC shopfront, which the Commissioner addresses here, as well as some remote communities having very limited voting windows and what can be achieved to support equal democratic opportunity under the current resourcing in the Northern Territory.
