Warlpiri cultural objects returned to Yuendumu from Germany

The Warlpiri Project, a repatriation program created and led by the Warlpiri community to reconnect Warlpiri people with their cultural heritage that has been displaced across museums, institutions and personal collections around the world, is for the first time receiving items to be repatriated to Yuendumu from overseas. A collection of cultural objects have been returned to The Warlpiri Project by a family living in Germany. Jaime Hampton, Warlpiri Repatriation Officer at SA Museum, has been researching catalogues, with the support of the State Library of SA and AITSIS, to find Warlpiri collections around the Australia and the world. Now in its fifth year of travelling the country and working to bring artefacts home to Warlpiri country, The Warlpiri Project has searched a collection of more than 1 million items related to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
