The first women to captain the Bushfires NT and Northern Territory Fire and Rescue (NTFRS) volunteer brigades; the new Central Western Desert IPA celebration and funding for boarding and the Red Tails were just some of the highlights this week.

Darcy Davis spoke to the Brekky Show from the highway back to Mparntwe, about the superb performance by UPK Allstars at WOMAD on the weekend. Beginning in the 1980s as a way to share important messages to community around health and education, UPK is a multi-generational music project based in the APY lands. UPK Allstars is a collection of artists who have featured on their seven albums of original songs in Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara language.

Epenarra-based gospel country singer, Kalvin Ladd, has released a new single, 'Lonely Road To Calvary', produced by Josh Kreusler from the Winanjjiki Music Centre. A successful painter and a member of The Country Gospel Band, Ladd is currently working on a solo album. He tells the Big Brekky Show his story.

Adam Drake, founder of the Balanced Choice program, which aims to improve outcomes for young people in the justice system, has beat the Guinness World Record for the number of plyometric pushups achieved in one minute. On his birthday, supporters and witnesses gathered as Adam completed 28 'poly push ups' in one minute, beating the record of 11, and achieving a first world record for Tennant Creek. Thirteen years on from struggles with alcohol, Adam is proud to set an example for young people. “Anchor yourself with your values, so you can fly the life that you want".

Tennant Creek local, Charlie Jones, grew his first mullet from April for Black Dog Institute's Mullets for Mental Health. He's now cutting it off for charity again.

Aboriginal Not-For-Profit cultural consultancy, Wilya Janta, has found all the funds needed to construct Tennant Creek’s first ever display homes designed by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people, a project named ‘Explain Home’. Dr Simon Quilty, Chief Operating Officer, Jimmy Frank Jupurula, Chief Cultural Officer, join 8CCC's Shauna in the Tennant Creek studio to tell us about it.
