This week I chose the theme of NAMES – names in songs and pieces of music, tracks that are clearly dedicated to people; written instead of writing a letter to the person; written in memory of the person; written as a thought piece, trying to look at the world through that person’s eyes … so many reasons behind the title …
TITO ROBIN – Lila
TRIO GOROSITO CATALDI DE LA VEGA – Chao Osvaldo
RACHID TAHA – Josephine
RODRIGO AND GABRIELA – Hanuman
BRAMATOPIN – Te Vos Maridar Rosetta
SINEAD O CONNOR – Marcus Garvey
BUCOVINA CLUB VS TARAF – Carolina (catchy, so I ope it got you jigging about)
RAMATIS – Marcia Rodhina the Mystical Roller
SOUAD MASSI – a letter to Si Ahmed
NIGEL KENNEDY AND THE KROKE BAND – Lullaby for Kamila (this piece just transports me to a lovely place …)
ANOUAR BRAHEM – The astounding eyes of Rita (another beautiful piece) have a listen on YouTube
JIM MORAY – Jenny of the Moor
FIDDLER’S BID – Ode to Joy (For Kate, cos she’ll be in the Shetland Isles later this year)
Some audio snippets from the Alice Springs Desert Music Club – will post up as a podcast if I get permissions sorted out!
BABYLOVE AND THE VAN DANGOS – So long CPH (a classic mistake with this track – a while since I’d listened to it and through that would be great for this show to finish on … however, its not about a person but about Copenhagen! Ah well some people have relationships with towns and cities as emotionally strong as with a person … that is my excuse anyway, if I need one!)
Tune in next week from 4pm – 5.30pm on 102.1FM.
Cheers, Joy
