November 11 2018 marked the Armistice Centenary- 100 years since the end of World War 1

World War 1 Stories draws on archival audio to share the lived experience of those who served and their family members, providing an opportunity for Reflection, Contemplation and Critical Thinking.

World War 1 Stories– was launched, at Sunset, atop Untyeyetwelye  (Anzac Hill) on the Armistice Centenary.

An important element of the project is the inclusion of stories of Indigenous Service in WW1. Arrernte elder Patricia Ansell Dodds introduced the story of Samuel Browning, featuring story and narrative by Samuel’s great great nephew, Daniel Browning.

This series contains stories about the initial sense of adventure of going off to war, to injury, shellshock, as well as death, and highlights the grief of loved ones left behind and the struggles of those who served to re-adjust to society after returning home.

The World War 1 Stories app also contains a record of Centralians who served and is linked to on signage atop Untyeyetwelye (Anzac Hill).

8CCC partnered with the Alice Springs Peace Action Think Tank to support the audio production and development of the WW1 Stories app, extending its impact through broadcast on 102.1fm in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

World War 1 Stories can be heard on 8CCC 102.1fm, with introductions read by local narrators. Original production music was composed and recorded by Alice Springs based musician Dave Crowe of Sing Hum.
