ACMA has allocated a community radio licence to 8CCC Community Radio Inc in Alice Springs.
The new full time licence ends a long running saga which saw the station lose its original licence when it was no longer supported by Charles Darwin University.
8CCC FM promises to serve Alice Springs’ “general community interest” on 102.1 FM.
Charles Darwin University, now supporting another station, Territory FM, also applied for the licence, proposing to serve the educational community interest in the licence area.
“The ACMA considered that 8CCC FM’s proposed service would meet the existing and perceived future needs of the community within the Alice Springs licence area to a greater extent than Territory FM’s proposed service,” said Chris Chapman, Chairman of the ACMA.
