8CCC is excited to present this live performance video from Tamlyn Magee, aka Anactoria.
Recorded live at Amberly Studios, Mama Underground is a rhythmic, circular arrangement that features electric harp, looped hand-made beats and vocal arrangements that defy convention and enchant the imagination.
Of the song, Tamlyn says: “It continues to be a bit mysterious to me, but when I sing it I feel like I make contact with aspects of myself that have been both revealed and concealed in the process of becoming a mother, joining a timeless maternal line. I love the wordless language of overlapping melodies; it makes a lot of sense in my body when I sing it.”
Anactoria recently released an EP entitled Twentythree,
produced in Alice Springs by Dave Crowe (Sing Hum Records).
A former Alice Springs local, NT residents may remember Tamlyn from the all-woman collaborative project Take My Song and Run With It, in which she performed with Bethany Uhe, Katelnd Griffin and Xavia Nou a number of outstanding shows in Alice Springs and at The Darwin Fringe Festival in 2016. Or you may have seen her in 2016 or 2017 performing her solo material as part of The Desert Song Festival. In any case, we are sad to have lost her to regional NSW, but pleased to announce that she does have plans for a tour which will definitely include the desert, in 2019.
