Filmmakers Emma Smith & Damon Van Der Schuit came into the Big Brekky to discuss their short film Live from the Alice made locally that was screened at the inaugural Mparntwe Alice Springs International Film Festival (MASIFF) and premiered at Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF). The highlight has been the growing community support and upskilling for creatives in Alice Springs, that has occurred since their first short The First Drop in 2023.

Country Gospel Band drops their first album in 22 years!

Country Gospel Band have just released their long awaited second album. The self-titled album comes 22 years after the Alyawarr band's first release, and celebrates family and community. Recently rekindled under the encouragement of band member Kevin Ladd, the band consists of a close-knit group of friends who grew up in Epenarra community and have been performing together for over twenty years. Ladd shares their story on The Big Brekky from the 8CCC Barkly studio.

Dylan River’s newest project to screen at MASIFF

The inaugural Mparntwe Alice Springs International Film Festival (MASIFF) is in full swing, screening local and international films across three local cinemas: Araluen Arts Centre, the Alice Springs Cinema and Alice Springs Desert Park. Brought to us by Red Hot Arts, with support from Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Darwin Film Society, the Film Festival runs until 13 October.Screening tomorrow at Araluen Theatre is Thou Shalt Not Steal, a special screening of Stan's original series written and directed by the ever unfolding talent, Mparntwe-born Dylan River. Dylan is joined by Kim Haworth, Creative Director of Red Hot Arts Central Australia, on The Big Brekky to tell us all about it.

We have Nicole Walsh from the NT Chamber of Commerce. They are hosting Open Business at Sunset at Olive Pink Botanic Garden on Thursday night with Minister Joshua Burgoyne and Olympian Tom Wickham. Tom actually grew up in Alice Springs and moved to pursue his Hockey career. This afternoon from 5.30 you can also attend a session to support migrants in business at MCSCA, a collaboration with them and Lhere Artepe and Yaye's Cafe.

After being in limbo since October last year, the Barkly Region is soon set to head to the polls on Saturday, November 2. The Barkly Regional Council were officially dismissed after an eight-month investigation into their conduct, leaving the 12 councillors and one mayor position on the Council vacant. We were joined on the Big Brekky Program by the NT Electoral Commission’s Senior Project Officer of the Barkly Regional Council Election, Greg Hibble to discuss the nomination process and the cutoff date as midday 10 October.
