8CCC invited all the Alice Springs mayoral candidates to be interviewed prior to this weekend's election and answer a standard set of question. Three of the seven followed up and today's interview with Michelle Pettit is our last. Listen back for an introduction to her plans for office, if elected.

On Arvos with Andy we had Lesley Thompson in the studio and George Halkias from the Big Issue via phone. They highlighted Homeless Street World Cup that is happening in Oslo Norway. This is a tournament with purpose! A World Cup, not like you know. It’s with players that are not global superstars. (Not Yet) They are players who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.

Tylah McConnell, from Tennant Creek, is one of this year’s Australian College of Midwives Awards finalists. Tylah joined us on the Big Brekky Program to discuss with us her love for midwifery, the families she supports, and what this recognition means to her.

Local volunteer environmental letter writing and environmental advocacy group, Letters for the Environment Central Australia, has surveyed candidates about where they stand on local environmental issues. Adrian Tomlinson came into the Big Brekky Show to unpack some of the responses ahead of this weekends Alice Springs Town Council election.

The Advocate Art Award is an all-inclusive exhibition and this year had a strong line up of new, emerging and established artists, generously supported by the Central Australian Art Society Inc (CAAS) non-profit organisation run by volunteer artists. The last day of the exhibition included a walk and talk by some of the entrants. The winner of the Excellence Award, sponsored by Chapman & Bailey, is Deb Clarke for her Carina's Car. This month is Seniors Month in the Territory and Alice Springs has hosted it's expo this week, with many activities still to experience. Local architect Owen Kelly, Director of Dogspike Design & Architecture. Paul Memmott is an anthropologist and architect and a prolific author, well known for his 2007 book Gunyah Goondie + Wurley: The Aboriginal Architecture of Australia, the definitive guide to Australian Indigenous architecture & the only continental survey of this country’s First Nations’ innovative architecture.
