This week I was inspired by a new compilation from Radio France International to have a special on some African women musicians and activists who were inspired by the life and work of Miriam Makeba.

More info about Miriam Makeba: http://www.miriammakeba.co.za/

We set the scene with the Makeba Classic ‘The Click Song” and moved on to

Angelique Kidjo – Malaika (live in New York, US) (Benin) – a wonderful rendition of a Makeba standard
Oumou Sangare – Sabu AND Wele Wele Wintou (Mali)
Rokia Traore – Sara (Mali)
Fafa Ruffino – Amede (Benin)
Sia Tolno – Blind Samaritan (Guinee)
Khadja Nin – Sina Mali Sina Deni ((Burundi) – a track that I can listen to over and over.  I love it!
Mounira – Chili Houritki (Chad)
Gigi – Sew Argen (Ethiopia)
