Bleak Squad are a new four-piece comprised of Australian art-rock royalty: Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Mess Esque) Mick Harvey (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, The Birthday Party), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Marty Brown (Art of Fighting), the result of Brown needing a project to play drums more. This weeks’s 8CCC Feature Album is their debut, Strange Love, out this week through Poison City Records.
“I think the name Bleak Squad speaks to both this loose collection of misfits,” says Adalita of the concoction. “And the noirish mood of our music.” Described on their Fb page as “an entire album of depresso-rock.”
First single ‘Lost My Head’ by Adalita came out mid June so you may have already begun to check them. Bleak Squad debuted live 1 Aug in Queenscliff, Vic, now you’ll have to wait for shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania from 11 October. Until then, check out the album and see what you think.
