For all Gorillaz fans who missed the buzz – The Mountain is here & 8CCC is featuring The Mountain this week, 25 years after the first album created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett under the virtual band name. A musical response to the death of both their fathers, it channels a trip to India, and features old recordings Albarn made with many collaborators now dead: Dennis Hopper, Bobby Womack, Mark E Smith, Tony Allen, and rappers Proof of D12 and Trugoy the Dove of De La Soul.
With all the loss that these 15 tracks contain, expectations would be aimed at something solemn, but this is Gorillaz – “the album’s overall mood is weirdly upbeat: post-disco boogie with lush cinematic strings” The Guardian
Starring Ajay Prasanna, Amaan Ali Bangash & Ayaan Ali Bangash, Anoushka Shankar, Asha Bhosle, Asha Puthli, Bizarrap, Black Thought, Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Dennis Hopper, Gruff Rhys, IDLES, Jalen Ngonda, Johnny Marr, Kara Jackson, Mark E Smith, Omar Souleyman, Paul Simonon, Proof, Sparks, Tony Allen, Trueno and Yasiin Bey.
Checkout their short film too – ‘The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God’, now playing on YouTube and decide if you would go to one of their shows. Touring Europe from late March: https://youtu.be/ucRulNQsuYQ?si=1nQ8SpJmxWpgHRwB
