On Tuesday 29th October 2013, 8CCC’s The Fine Line presenter Jen Standish-White spoke with Marg Johnson and Franca Frederiksen, coordinators of the recently held Oh Yes! Accessories exhibition. The life force of remote regional Australia was on show here in Alice Springs over the weekend of the 12th and 13th October as art and design lovers and fashionistas gathered in person and online to participate in this unique event held in The Gallery in the Fred McKay Education Centre at St Philip’s College.
Franca Frederiksen told listeners where the idea for Oh Yes! had come from and how designers, artists and crafts people from across Australia had joined forces to contribute to this selling exhibition of unique, handmade fashion accessories – from hats, bags, scarves, wraps, jewellery, belts, to bowties and man bags!
Oh Yes! was a very special event for Marg Johnson and her husband Ken, being a tribute to celebrate the life of their daughter Kate, a vibrant, creative young woman of central Australia, who died in February 2013 from brain cancer, aged 31 years. Their determination to increase awareness and to raise much needed research funds to donate to the Cure for Life Foundation through Oh Yes! was inspired by Kate’s infectious zest for life and her generous spirit; and how Kate faced brain cancer with grace, courage and determination, teaching us much about cherishing the richness and beauty of life and embracing each day.
Oh Yes! also showcased an on-line art gallery – of paintings, sculpture and photography by established and emerging artists. These works are all stunning accessories for the home and boardroom and are available to buy on line. To view or participate go to the Oh Yes! website at www.ohyesartanddesign.com.au
