UPK7 began at Angatja in August 2023. There were many interruptions to smooth progress with funerals and football carnivals being a main cause.
“We all decided to tell the story of Tjanima, a modern parable which relates a common experience of young people today, where the pressures of lifestyle can have a powerful but negative effect on the modern society and its members. If the community world disintegrates it directly impacts all family members. The Tjanima Story follows the path of a boy whose life disintegrates under social pressure then recovers.”
This process was guided along the path by Jacob McKenzie who is a key person in the Uti Kulintjaku men’s group established to address social problems.
Darcy Davis was engineer and producer of the content of this work.
UPK7 stage 1 was made of two weeks in Angkatja where Tjanima was workshopped and recorded, Stage 2 was two weeks in Umuwa where the extra chapters of the Tjanima Story were recorded, and Stage 3 where the female voice ( Katrina Connelly) and commentary helped power the Tjanima Story to its conclusion.
