8CCC’s The Big Brekky Show’s Kate Lyons-Dawson talks to Olive Pink Botanical Gardens’ Sam Hussey about celebrations of the life of the prominent activist, artist and gardener planned for this weekend.
A born Tasmanian, Olive Pink was an artist, activist and gardener who moved to central Australia as an anthropologist to research the lives of the Arrernte people, falling in love with the native flora and fauna of the region.
Her personal love of native flora led to gardens being established in Mparntwe-Alice Springs, leading to the establishment of the town’s botanical gardens.
Her contribution to the town will be celebrated with a host activities, from morning yoga to afternoon tea, set among the beautiful native flora plantings at the gardens.
8CCC will be recording a unique panel session with centralians who knew Olive Pink personally on the weekend, to be broadcast at a later date.
