The 2024 NT Volunteering Awards – Central Australia were held on 7 October at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Alice Springs. These awards recognise the outstanding contribution of the many Northern Territory volunteers, volunteer-involving organisations, corporate volunteering programs and volunteer managers at work in our community. Established in 2014, the Awards are an initiative of Volunteering NT, supported by the NT Government. 8CCC social enterprise AV Event Production, partnered up with Volunteering NT to provide production services for the event. We caught up with somer of the recipients and their interviews can be found below.
The Chief Minister’s Volunteer of the Year – Januma (Mona) Ulak
Mona has contributed to Central Australia’s multicultural community over the last 15 years, including her present role as Chairperson of Multicultural Community Services Central Australia and chairing Big Day Out In Harmony for the past 3 years. Since 2015, Mona has been the founder and chairperson of the Nepalese Community Alice Springs.
The Chief Minister’s Community Volunteer of the Year – Maggie Johnson
Maggie Johnson has made a remarkable impact as a volunteer at Rovers Football Club. She coaches the female under-17 team, plays for the senior women’s side and serves as a general committee member as well as the lead of the club’s Social Committee. Her efforts have boosted team performance and strengthened the club’s community atmosphere, making her a respected and well-liked figure.
