Long-time Mbantua-Alice Springs residents gathered at Olive Pink Botanical Gardens last weekend for the 50th anniversary of Olive Pink’s passing, sharing their memories of the naturalist, anthropologist and artist.
8CCC, in partnership with the Olive Pink Botanical Gardens, was on hand to record the stories told during the hour-long panel discussion, which will also air on 8CCC 102.1FM Community Radio on Tuesday May 13 at 6pm.
Historians Josie Petrick and Alex Nelson, former Alice Springs Mayor Fran Kilgariff and long-time resident Alison Piper all shared their memories – and their families’ recollections – of Miss Pink, a local character who was terrifying to local children, a friend to Warlpiri families and a passionate protector of native flora.
