Tennant Creek locals are now tooled up for making programs for broadcast on 8CCC.  After a week of intensive training in the studio at the Tennant Creek Training Centre on Staunton Street, new program proposals have been submitted, and some demo programs made – showcasing the diversity of interests in music, storytelling,  yarn spinning, and sharing news and information about Tennant Creek.  We also now have some great new community service announcements, station announcements and station IDs so you can hear our new presenters  on air from NOW!

Participating in the training were: Kathy Burns, Ktima Heathcote, Kate Foran, Alecia Scobie, Peta Wilson, Danielle Clark and Peter Davenport.  Peter is looking forward to bringing back his program “The Rhythm Stick” which he used to present some years ago.  Its great to have you back Pete! Kathy will be producing and presenting “What Now?” providing news and information about the arts in the Barkly region.  Other ideas include some of the trainees working together to produce a saturday morning cafe show and next year a youth program and an Indigenous languages program.  So watch this space!

Thanks to Community Broadcasting Foundation for a training grant, to Radio Adelaide who is 8CCC’s training partner, and to Barkly Regional Arts for their support and help in promoting the course and over the week of the training.  You are a great mob to work with.

We look forward to running more training programs in the future in Tennant Creek.  8CCC wants more local voices, more local programs from Tennant Creek and Alice Springs on air and on line.  If you’d like to put your name down or get more information about training check out our training page or contact me, Joy Taylor at [email protected]
