Do you have any photos of your time and involvement with 8CCC? We’d love to see them and add them to the collection – so we can have a record on our website of 8CCC’s history in photos. Please send digital photos to [email protected] or post them on 8CCC’s FaceBook page.
This photo is of the June 1982 community broadcasting in Alice Springs program guide. At that time, the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) did not have a radio licence, and 8CCC worked with CAAMA to broadcast programs on 102.1FM every weekday from 7.30am-11.30am. CAAMA programs included “Mparnta – interviews with Alice Springs fringe dwellers” and “Brand New Day” – music, news and information in Central Australian Aboriginal languages.
8CCC programs were broadcast from 7.30pm-11.00pm and from 7.30am-11.00pm at the weekends. Programs included: “Tarry with Teddy” – with Teddy Cairns, “Folk Folk” – folk music and news with members of the Central Australian Folk Society, “Welcome to My World” with BJ Owers, and the Alice Springs High School Radio and TV Swag Show.
This group photo was taken at the old studio at Centralian College, at a farewell party for the station manager, John McBeath. The photo was taken in 1998 and includes Graham Bell, Chris Hallet, Gary Newley, John McBeath, Lisa Weller, Veronique Dal Bom-Cowell, Dave Richards and Hamish Ludwig.
